Model 60-31 Automatic Vapour Vent Unit
The model 60-31 acts as a phase separator for liquid nitrogen, removing gaseous nitrogen from the piping in which it is installed to ensure rapid liquid response at outlets.
The unit comprises a small vacuum insulated buffer vessel, with a float-operated vent valve. It is positioned at the high point of the line so that all vapour formed in the pipework rises into the buffer vessel and is released by the vent valve.
The vent valve orifice is approximately 3 mm, small compared with the line size, so pressure fluctuations are minimal.
The model 60-31 is normally installed with a check valve and manual valve in the vent line. The check valve prevents ingress of moisture from the atmosphere, and the manual valve allows the vent to be shut off.
Since the vapour released from the unit is generally very cold, care should be taken to avoid personnel coming into contact with the vent piping, which is used to convey the vented vapour to a safe,well-ventilated area.
The model 60-31 is mounted on a vacuum superinsulated mechanical coupling for ease of removal and replacement.
A miniature version, the 60-31M is available for installations where there is limited space.
The 60-31S is a variant for use within environmental chambers and other small scale equipment which requires the removal of vapour from the liquid nitrogen supply.
